Wallowing in the past will not get you where you want to go.
A lot of spiritual teachers teach to let go of the past. Letting go of the past is a great idea. However just letting go of the past can be a waste of some growth potential. I teach from experiences that you celebrate your victories and learn from your mishaps. The experiences that you do this with are your past.
Historically I have a tendency to get excited about a new idea and then to quit the idea when the excitement declines. This is a pattern I used to repeat over and over again. This pattern was very evident during my back to the basic year, as it was almost a year of starting stuff again and stopping when it was time to move on.
During my December I was looking back at my past year and wondering what was my main lesson on the year. During crossfit I noticed how much fun it was finish something that was difficult. I then decided that was going to by my theme for next year. The reason being that joy of finishing is a muscle that I need to work out. To let go of my past and build a new beginning.
That is why 2013 is my Year of Challenges. Building a new beginning is also the reason I am using the [amazon_link id=”1401902316″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Soul Coaching Book[/amazon_link] as my challenge for February. I have started that program three times without even passing week one.
Now is the time for me to do all the things I want to do and build the me I want to be. I am going to do that by using my past as a learning tool for the person that I want to become.
What item from your past can you learn from? What habit will you do now to continue to build the wonderful person that you are.
