Today on Facebook I read this from YouNeedABudget. Which is by the way the best budgeting software ever!
In a study from “Mindless Eating“, people would be told they could help themselves to a cookie while they waited for what they thought was some kind of a survey or research project.
Unbeknownst to them, the research had already started. The experiment had a “pacesetter” at the cookies, that was also made to look like they were waiting to participate in the research project. The pacesetters job was to simply eat a lot, or just a few cookies.
If the pacesetter ate just one cookie, the subject would eat just one. If the pacesetter ate six, the subject would eat five or six. The number of cookies eaten by the pacesetter was powerfully correlated with the number of cookies our subject chose to eat.
In your life you are the “pacesetter.” Do you want someone else to change? The easiest way to change anyone is to be the example. Be the best person you can be and live the best live that you can. Be the beacon of change and then real change can happen in this world.
“If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. … We need not wait to see what others do.” – Gandhi
