The above are all examples of short sweet statements that companies use to get you to buy their products. They work because they are short and sweet. Plus they display them anywhere they can to get it stuck in your head.

It is very effective marketing and it is time to use that marketing to your advantage. When it comes to your 2012, create a theme. The theme of your 2012 should be a short and simple statement. One of my most successful clients used, “Woman of action.” Simple and too the point. She used that slogan over and over again and became that woman of action she wanted to be.

When choosing a theme, decide on what you want to work on and how it excites you. The exciting part is very important. The theme should at least be as exciting as getting a Big Mac. You want to be energized every time you think, say or read your theme. If you are making a 2012 scrapbook or vision board, put the theme on top. Use it to keep you inspired and motivated.

My theme is “Back to the Basics.” I am picking three areas of my life that I am focusing on in 2012. Three basic areas. My health, finances and home are going to be energized in 2012. Last year it was “Ripples to Tidal Waves.” I made big changes with that theme and made big leaps in my life and business. Now it is time to get the basics down to create a bigger base so that I can create a bigger structure! 2012 is an amazing year. Ride the Wave! Continue reading »]]> The beauty of December is the fact it rhymes with remember better than any other month. December falls at the end of the year and it is the best time to remember the following year and reevaluate your goals and celebrate your accomplishments.

Look back at your year and look at what you have done. Have you reached your goals? What have you learned from the past year?

What did you fall short on? How can you take what you learned from that and take it to the next level?

Since we use a 12 month calendar, December is the month to look back and start to plan. So today, take time out and look at what you have done.  That is the first step to planning a wonderful 2012.

Continue reading »]]> A year ago I wrote a blog post about the 8 keys to living a joyful life. Any life coach worth their salt has keys to life that they believe in. They are even better when they are in list form. Lists are fun to read as they are to make. If you live these eight keys you will live a happy life, no doubt about it. This blog post is going to put them all on one list for easy access.

Spiritual Life Coach: 8 Keys to Living a Joy Filled Life

1. Find your placebo. Different ideas make different people happy. That is why there are so many self help books saying practically the same message. Each person has their own perspective on life, which causes different messages to speak with different people. With that in mind, find the message that speaks to you.
2. Be positively selfish. Put your joy and well being in front of all others. When you do this you will have more to give. When you try to serve someone from lack you are not really serving them. A lot of times you are just piling  your baggage on top of theirs. Look at Mother Teresa as an example. She did not help people to fill an empty hole in her heart. She helped people because she believed she was doing God’s work. Doing the work of her God she was filled with joy.
3. Receive abundance. You deserve to be happy and live with joy. Practice receiving joy and abundance. When people say nice things about you, say “thank you.” Allowing you to receive will allow you to give much more. Allow yourself to receive will bring a lot of joy into your life.
4. Clarify and live your purpose. Having a purpose statement that helps keep you on track feels so good. Reading a statement that signifies what you are looking for in life is just amazing. Your purpose is the essence of who you are and your actions are the expression of that purpose. Your purpose is the sweet sound that calls the young sailor, from the song The Rainbow Connection.
5. Move from joy to joy. Shift your perspective that all things happen. When something happens that you do not like, learn from it. When something happens that you do like, learn from it. Life is growth. You are always changing. Might as well enjoy the change. Failure is a human concept and eliminating the idea from your mind will allow you to move from joy to joy. Life is an amazing series of lessons. Your perspective is how you decide how much you enjoy the perspective. Plus the contrast of life is what causes you to expand. Enjoying the contrast allows you to live a more joyful life.
6. Give up the illusion of being done. Part 1. Part 2. Life is growth. Give up the illusion of being done. There is no done. There is only growth.  Giving up the illusion of being done has so many perspectives. For one believing that you are done with an old pain can cause a lot of stress if you are triggered again. Giving up the illusion of being done allows you to let go when those old triggers occur again. Another perspective is the idea that when you reach your goal then you will be happy. Getting to the goal is not being done because there is always a new goal and a lot of the time the goal you just reach will have to expand to feel satisfying. A good reason to move from joy to joy. The journey is the fun.
7. Love unconditionally. People are doing the best they can with what they are presented with. Love them. Remember you can love them from a different house or state. The more you love the more you are filled with love.
8. Celebrate!! When you celebrate the little things in life, then life is one big celebration. Celebrating your life feels so good. Remember that your life is filled with many victories. Too many times you keep on looking to the future without celebrating everything you have accomplished to this point. Celebrate your life!

Continue reading »]]> The first three keys of living a joyful life, “Finding Your Placebo,” “Be Positively Selfish” and “Receive Abundance” may at first seem to be living a life where a person is just taking. The keys to living a joyful life are meant to be lived together and build on each other. The first three keys are very important to the fourth key and without the fourth key the first three would not have such a positive impact on our lives.

The fourth key to living a joyful life is to clarify and live your purpose.

Your purpose is a reason for being. When you are living your purpose you are living in a way that is inspired by the best parts of you. What you are doing is bringing great joy in your life. It is taking the gifts that you have and expressing them in the world.

Finding your purpose

Having a purpose fills people with a sense of meaning in their lives. Living a life without purpose feels empty.

It does not have to be challenging though. If a person feels they do not know their purpose, making it their purpose at this moment to find their purpose is more than enough. In fact, making the intention to find their purpose is enough to set everything that is needed for finding it in motion.

There are many books for finding one’s purpose or passion. The book that I read was The Way of the Superior Man by David Deida. Deida has a simple exercise that has you spend all of your free time doing absolutely nothing. Unless it is something that you need to do to survive you sit and do nothing. When there is something that you must do and makes it so you cannot sit anymore, you have found your purpose.

Making a Purpose Statement

Finding my purpose and putting it into a purpose statement was one of the best experiences of my life. Looking at a few words and feeling them click was very rewarding. My purpose is to be joy and to love deeply. When I say the words, “my purpose is to be joy and love deeply,” I am filled with excitement. As I work every day, I work to live every moment following my purpose statement.

The purpose statement is a representation of what I feel with my inner being. It is also something that changes. The truth of who I am is something that is beyond words, however, I am a person of words and words are how I talk to myself. So I use words to best communicate with myself to create the feeling of purpose and joy.

To find your own purpose statement, look at the words that best represent you. What do you love to do? How do you feel when you are doing what you love? When do you feel the most alive? What actions are you doing when you feel this way?

Invite Change has a powerful coarse called Living Your Vision. In this course people are given exercises that help them develop a vision and purpose statement. Seeing people create a purpose statement is an amazing event to witness. They talk about how special it is to have a sentence that they can say to themselves and it feels like their authentic self. They are able to know themselves more and their direction more. With the vision and purpose statement they are able to craft the rest of their lives with integrity.

Actions are the expression of purpose

In discussions I have had with many people, many have mistaken their job for their purpose. This is far from the case. If the job was their purpose and they were fired, then they would be purposeless. A person’s actual purpose is something that can never be taken away. A person’s actions are not their actual purpose. Instead, it is how they express their purpose. Living your purpose is making your life into an art.

Mistaking your vocation for your purpose is mistaking the role for who your self. Right now, I am a life coach who is writing a blog. This blog is how I am sharing my gift while living my purpose in this world. It is how I am expressing my purpose at this moment in time. Five years from now I could be expressing my purpose exactly the same or in a completely different way. If I am living my purpose being joy and loving deeply as a massage therapist, waiter or a motivational speaker appearing on Oprah, my purpose hasn’t changed. Only the expression of my purpose has changed.

Serve

The key to living your purpose is to live a life of service. Living a life of service is how you live your life with the most joy possible. When you give others your gift, you receive much in return. Living a life on your purpose is the best way for you to serve humanity.

Find your placebo, because when you are at your happiest it is easier to serve. Finding your purpose will be easier and living it will be as easy as dropping the oars and letting the current take you down the river.

Being positively selfish allows you to be at your best to best serve. As you are taking care of yourself and your well being you are able to serve from your purpose. You are not letting any situation take you off your path. You are living an inspired life for the sake of all beings.

Receive abundance because the more you receive the more you can give. The more you give, the more you receive. The more you allow into your life, the more you will be able to express your purpose and make art out of your life. Even though it might not seem spiritual or right, it also includes money. The more money you have the more you can serve the world around you.
